There are countless of things we deemed that are not enough for us. We blame the cost of living, the highly competitive corporate world, and the bad economy for the things we could not achieve.
Think about it, how many times we complained about how flawed our transportation system is, how our education system is too old school and how our government is overpaid and yet we do nothing about it. We pinpoint the problems we observed in our society instead of coming up with a solution to it.
The middle income individual who likes to go fine dining and spend their money on luxury items will claim that their salaries are not enough. Not enough to purchase a car, not enough to go their favourite travel destination and not enough to have savings.
But the thing is, their expectation of living surpasses their ability to maintain it. Drawing an okay salary but expect to live like a king or queen. Taking the public transportation is too mainstream, because flaunting their material possession on social media is the only way to show their peers that they are doing better than them.
We spend more time building our online persona as if they were our offline persona. Our pictures on Instagrams hugely defines who we are, just by the pictures itself, we can tell that if the person is high-maintenance, sporty, family-oriented, and dog or cat lovers etc.
We blame the foreigners for stealing our jobs when we were the ones who do not want those jobs. We were told as a child that if we did not get a degree in Singapore, we’ll end up being jobless or outcast from the society. As a child, we have always been compared to our relatives or friends who scores better academic grades than us, who are more well-behaved than us and we grow up comparing ourselves to others.
Nothing is ever enough to satisfy us anymore, we treat our wants as our needs. Maybe we should not have such high expectations from the start, nothing is ever going to be enough for us. Just be contented with what we have, strive to be a better person instead of striving to the best.
